"Now we're talking!" — those were the exact words of one of our blind tasters when she first tasted La Piffaudière. And she was right: this wine has an "oomph" factor you wouldn't expect in a Sauvignon Blanc. Simply delicious.
I'm a nerd, I want every detail
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most famous grapes in the world, harvested from the Loire Valley to New Zealand. And sometimes, it can feel a bit generic. But La Piffaudière definitely has character. It might be the terroir the grapes are farmed on (clay, limestone, flint, even sand). It is definitely the work and vision of winemaker Olivier Bellanger, who drew out every facet of the fruit — from bright apples to seductive notes of citrus, with a surprising hint of earth.

The occasion
We love this as an apéritif with crackers, or goat and sheep cheese.
Olivier Bellanger
Olivier Bellanger grew up in Monthou sur Cher, a little east of Tours. He obtained his agricultural diploma in 2000, and spent the next 8 years working for various domaines in the Loire, notably for Philippe Tessier. In 2008 he got the opportunity to buy 6 hectares of vineyards in Thesée near his native village. He immediately converted them to organic farming with a commitment to local grapes.
He started vinifying in a friend’s winery where he rented space. Still in startup mode, he now farms about 10 hectares and sells some fruit to other wineries to keep his cash flow reasonable. His own wines of course are a real labor of love. He never stops fine-tuning his blends. The results are always exciting and delicious.
