I'm a nerd, I want every detail

This is a rosé that means business: it leans towards redcurrant rather than strawberry, and tangy citrus rather than playful grapefruit. It might be because the blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon grew on silt and limestone at the foot of the Alpilles mountains. It might also be because Château Romanin has a (controlled) obsession with serious wines, in the best sense of the word. In any case, it works.

The craft

  • Manual harvest, cooled for 24 hours at 50°F.

  • Alcoholic fermentation at 64–68°F in stainless steel.

  • No malolactic fermentation.

  • Aged 5 months on fine lees with regular stirring.

  • 13.5% ABV.

  • Lifespan: 4 years.

The occasion

We love it as an apéritif, but it also works with grilled sea bass, or puff pastry tomato tart and burrata.

The winemaker

Théo Buravand

Château Romanin rises beneath the northern slope of the Alpilles, a biodynamic estate shaped by Provençal light and the ruins of a 13th-century Templar castle.  In 2024, Carolyn and Stan Sheetz became its stewards.

Théo Buravand has followed la "voie royale" for someone not born in a French wine family and not a domaine owner. After graduating with a Diplome Nationale d'Oenologue in Toulouse, he studied business and then started his career at Château Romanin in 2018.

He paid his dues, quickly rose through the ranks to become the vignerron of the domaine. In December 2004, he got promoted to Managing Director. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic for several years. Théo's ambition is to produce elegant, complex wines that are honest and natural expressions of the exceptional terroir of Château Romanin. We think he is succeeding.
