Wine No 1 from Lift Off Collection

Château Tour Boisée

Marie-Claude 2019

AOP Minervois

  • red
  • with food
  • balanced
  • supple

If this wine were a dress, it would be that dark red silky marvel that makes you look and feel like a femme fatale. It's intense, but soft. It's fruity, but elegant. It's complex, but generous. In short, it's everything we love about red wine.

I'm a nerd, I want every detail

This cuvée blends three grape varieties: Grenache (35%), Syrah (35%), and Carignan (30%), grown on different parcels with different sun exposures. To preserve the unique character of each grape, they are pressed and aged separately. The blend only comes together just before bottling. The result is an elegant, seductive wine with notes of ripe fruit, rosemary, and a hint of nutmeg. Best of all, this is a 2019 vintage that has only gotten better since.

The craft

  • Destemmed grapes

  • The first run of juice (première coule) is set aside

  • Light pressing

  • 12-month aging in a separate barrel for each varietal

  • 14% ABV

  • Lifespan: up to 15 years

The occasion

This is a wine made for long dinners and equally long conversations. Think slow-cooked beef, pasta al ragù, orzo with mushrooms. And for dessert: dark chocolate.

The winemaker

Jean-Louis Poudou

Jean-Louis Poudou became winemaker by coincidence. His first dream was to become a mechanical engineer because he was comfortable with numbers. While being a wine grower, his father invented the first auger in France. So Jean-Louis attends university, but he's not very studious. He realizes that his heart is somewhere else, but his father ignores his requests to work with him.

Jean-Louis meets Marie-Claude, his wife, whose father is both a doctor and a wine grower.  Unlike his own father, his father-in-law actually suggests that he buys his vineyard from him. Jean-Louis borrows the money and buys it. He then immediately changes the focus of the vineyard from just growing grapes to making his own wine. Jean-Louis' heart is in creating a direct connection between his work and wine lovers. In his own words, he wants luxury for everyone.  He throws himself into his passion and soon receives recognition from the likes of Olivier Poussier, then best sommelier in the world. And as they say, the rest is history.
