Grand Vin Rouge (literally, "Great Red Wine") might sound like an arrogant name, and God knows the French are exactly that sometimes. But we promise you this is anything but bragging: every aspect of this Syrah and Mourvèdre blend testifies to Château Romanin's precise, almost obsessive pursuit of wines that can reach for the stars. Red berries, licorice, and a hint of spice: say no more, we're hooked. 

 

The craft

 

  • Hand-harvested.

  • Destemmed grapes.

  • 20 to 30-day maceration in steel vats and wooden barrels.

  • 19-month aging.

  • 14% ABV.

  • Lifespan: 15 to 20 years.

The winemaker

Théo Buravand

Château Romanin rises beneath the northern slope of the Alpilles, a biodynamic estate shaped by Provençal light and the ruins of a 13th-century Templar castle.  In 2024, Carolyn and Stan Sheetz became its stewards.

Théo Buravand has followed la "voie royale" for someone not born in a French wine family and not a domaine owner. After graduating with a Diplome Nationale d'Oenologue in Toulouse, he studied business and then started his career at Château Romanin in 2018.

He paid his dues, quickly rose through the ranks to become the vignerron of the domaine. In December 2004, he got promoted to Managing Director. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic for several years. Théo's ambition is to produce elegant, complex wines that are honest and natural expressions of the exceptional terroir of Château Romanin. We think he is succeeding.
