Château Romanin

Grand Vin Rouge 2018

AOP Les Baux-de-Provence

Tasting notes

Le grand vin rouge is made from a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Mourvèdre, grown on the silky-clay, sandy, and gravelly soils of the Alpilles foothills. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, de-stemmed, and lightly crushed before fermentation. Vinification takes place at temperatures between 24-26°C with total maceration for 20 to 30 days in a combination of stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels, with daily punching down and pumping over. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for 19 months, 13 of which take place in foudres. This vintage is perfect with beef stir-fried with noodles, or sun-dried vegetables. Make your own!

A photo of Théo Buravand The winemaker

Théo Buravand

Théo Buravand has followed la "voie royale" for someone not born in a French wine family and not a domaine owner. After graduating with a Diplome Nationale d'Oenologue in Toulouse, he studied business and then started his career at Château Romanin in 2018.

He paid his dues, quickly rose through the ranks to become the vignerron of the domaine. In December 2004, he got promoted to Managing Director. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic for several years. Théo's ambition is to produce elegant, complex wines that are honest and natural expressions of the exceptional terroir of Château Romanin. We think he is succeeding.
