La Vigilia is a bridesmaid who stole the show. Normally, Cabernet Franc is used in blends, bringing tension and acidity to other grapes. But here, it stands on its own — and its irreverence is quite irresistible.

I'm a nerd, I want every detail

La Vigilia's Cabernet Franc was grown over 1,000 metres above sea level, in the foothills of the Uco Valley. We don't know quite how, but winemaker Marcelo Paiva managed to make this usually acidic, almost austere grape embrace all facets of fruitiness. It's soft, it's generous, and we'd happily stumble through the Andes to get our hands on it. 

 

The craft

 

  • Fermentation in steel vats.

  • 12-month aging.

  • First-use French and American oak barrels.

  • 13.8% ABV.

  • Lifespan: 10 to 15 years.

The winemaker

Marcelo Paiva

Marcelo Paiva hails from Vista Flores, a stone’s throw from the vineyards he now tends. Growing up in one of Argentina’s premier wine-growing regions, his love for viticulture felt inevitable, leading him to study enology and pursue a career in winemaking. 

Marcelo honed his craft at renowned local wineries such as Finca La Luz, Familia Gimenez Riili, and the Vitivinícola Vista Flores cooperative. He later joined The Vines Winery, a unique operation specializing in crafting personalized wines for a diverse clientele—producing 500 distinct labels across 280 clients and 30 grape varieties.

Now, with over 15 years of experience, Marcelo serves as the in-house enologist at La Vigilia Winery. Alongside this role, he is channeling his passion into creating his own wine label, Rodolfo Wines—a brand that embodies more than just a lifestyle; it’s a personal quest for excellence.
