Wine No 3 from
Château Les Croisille
Calcaire 2021
AOP Cahors
We're in the presence of royalty. Malbec from Cahors was later transplanted to other terroirs — Argentina above all — raising this grape to worldwide fame. Calcaire is like a king walking the land incognito: cloaked in rusticity, but with the elegance of a true monarch in their stride.
I'm a nerd, I want every detail
Strong fruit, chalky tannins, and a refreshing finesse: Calcaire illustrates the modern way of doing Malbec in Cahors. Before the grape variety reached international fame, the wines from this region were decidedly rustic, with an almost austere charm. Now, a younger generation of winemakers is finding the perfect balance between the authenticity of their terroir and a style that found fame on the other side of the world. This dialogue had us hooked and sipping.

Germain Croisille
The Croisille family adventure begins in 1979 when Cecile and Bernard rented a property to retire to the land of the Causses of Luzech. They cleared and restored life to these lands that became gradually plots where Malbec is king. Their son Germain joined them in 2008, followed by Nicolas, his childhood friend, in 2010 and finally Simon, the last of the family who joined the team in 2015. Today the estate has 30 hectares of vineyards and the younger generation, passionate about wine, brings a new vision to viticulture and new ambitions for the estate's wines. Now farming organically, understanding the impact and richness that the wide diversity of calcareous soils have on the purity of the wine.
