Wine No 6 from
Domaine Boudau
Padri 2022
AOP Côtes du Roussillon
Padri means "Godfather" in the Occitan dialect. There's a smokiness to this wine that irresistibly evokes the poise of a mafioso holding a cigar while discussing, well… confidential business. Our advice: open the bottle in advance and sip while watching a Coppola or Scorsese film.
I'm a nerd, I want every detail
Unlike most blended wines from Côtes du Roussillon, Padri is 70% Mourvèdre. This particular variety is usually a minor partner in local reds, as opposed to other appellations where it's considered iconic, like Bandol AOC in Provence. Here, it fully develops its strong and complex personality alongside Syrah (20%) and Grenache Noir (10%). It will probably age really well, but why wait when you have that level of elegance in the glass?
The Craft
- Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness
-
21-day traditional maceration
-
Daily cap immersion
-
12-month aging in French oak casks
-
14% ABV
The Occasion
Just like Don Corleone in The Godfather, this is a wine that means business. It will be impressive as an apéritif, and formidable with dinner. We like to have a glass while the ragù sauce simmers on the stove.
Geraldine Boudau
The Boudau family has tended this land for over a century, yet for Pierre, Véronique, and Géraldine, winemaking is a return to their roots — a way to honor the Roussillon and its traditional cépages.
Pierre and his sister Véronique took over the estate thirty years ago. Pierre now guides the organic vineyards, guided by a conviction that agriculture must protect the land it depends on.
Véronique brings discipline and experience to the cellar, shaping the style of the wines. Géraldine, Pierre’s niece, left the corporate world in 2020 to join the estate. She vinifies each cépage and each parcel separately to capture the essence of every vintage.
Here, nothing is systematic. Each step is carried out with rigor and attention, and a quiet devotion to the Roussillon landscape.
