I'm a nerd, I want every detail

Created in 1946, Saint-Amour AOC is the most northerly of the Beaujolais crus and grew in fame over time as one of the pioneering natural and biodynamic wine regions. Like most local reds, À la Folie is 100% Gamay. The name is a truncated version of a French hyperbolic declaration along the lines of "I love you to bits." We can attest it has an impressive effect on the palate. You'll get the best of it by opening the bottle in advance or decanting.

 

The Craft

 

  • Hand-harvested

  • Carbonic maceration

  • 12-month aging in oak and stainless steel casks

  • 13.5% ABV

 

The Occasion

 

This wine inevitably makes us want a picnic with butter and saucisson sandwiches. But do not think it unrefined: it's also perfect as an apéritif with friends and the saucisson properly sliced.

 

The winemaker

Pierre-Maxime, Jean-Baptiste & Victor-Emmanuel Chardigny

The three Chardigny brothers took over the family business after learning the trade from their parents, Catherine and Jean-Michel. They have clearly mastered their craft: their vineyards in Saint-Véran — planted in 2014 — were cultivated solely by Jean-Michel and his sons, without a tractor and without any chemical inputs. They describe themselves as artisan winemakers, guided by the health of the soil and the vines. Their vineyards have been in the same family since the 18th century, and they are determined to ensure that this terroir continues to bear fruit for many years to come.
